Aporte ecuatoriano a The Clash
Eduardo García es un hijo de inmigrantes ecuatorianos que trabajaba en Electric Lady Studios, en la ciudad de New York. Su lengua natal fue el inglés, aunque comprendía algo de lo que le hablaba su madre en español. En noviembre de 1981, el grupo británico de punk rock, The Clash, fue a grabar varias canciones en ese estudio para el proyecto que saldría a la venta en 1982, llamado Combat Rock. Entre ellas, el clásico "Should I Stay or Should I Go?", que lleva en los coros varias expersiones en español.
Joe Strumer, guitarrista de The Clash, recuerda cómo se le ocurrió hacer algunos coros en español para esta cacnión, y cómo Eduardo, a quien se lo conocía como Eddie, lo ayudó. "Voy a hacer los coros en español, dije... entonces necesitábamos un traductor, así que Eddie García, el técnico de sonido, llamó a su madre a Brooklyn Heights y le leyó la letra por el teléfono, y ella la tradujo. Pero Eddie y su madre son ecuatorianos, así que es español ecuatoriano lo que Joe Ely y yo cantamos en los coros".
Dado el poco conocimiento de Eddie García del español, se cometieron algunos errores de sintaxis y de ortografía... no importa, es rock!!!!!!!!!
